Why Attend Church?

Why should I come to church?

I did the church thing when I was a kid.  Been there – done that.

Maybe so.  Maybe you have a firm grasp on everything you encounter in life.  But if you’re like most of us, you may occasionally struggle with some of the larger questions of life and wonder about the meaning of those questions for you and your life’s purpose.

The theologian, Howard Thurman, spoke to the idea of listening for God’s voice. He said to listen for the sound of the genuine in yourself — not what other people are telling you to do, but what God is calling you to do. As Thurman stated, “…if you cannot hear the sound of the genuine in yourself, you will spend all the days of your life on the end of strings that somebody else pulls.”

At First Presbyterian Church, we don’t have all the answers, but we absolutely love the process of searching for those answers with others who have found genuine purpose and meaning within the Body of Christ.  We would be honored if you would join us in the search.

Why should I come to church?  Why not?  Give it a try … God may surprise you.
